Which Plastic Water Bottles Are Safe?
Posted May 16th, 2008 by laurelwelchI am still confused as to what water bottles are supposedly safe and which are not. My daughter's soccer coach and softball coach went to every team member and started taking away water bottles. I've personnaly never liked sports water bottles. so what can we use in place of them?

Try SIGG or Kleen Kanteen water bottles. I believe they are made from stainless steel. Neither leach any chemicals. My daughter loves her SIGG cup because she got to pick out a design with flowers and a kitty! And I carry my SIGG bottle with me everywhere and get lots of compliments on it. Both are available at reusablebags.com.
If you want to stick to plastic, #2 (HDPE), #4 (LDPE), and #5 (PP) are considered safe and non-leaching, according to my extensive research in magazines and on the web!
Never reuse one time use bottles, which are made from #1 (PET or PETE) as it immediately begins to break down and harbors bacteria. Also, #7 (PC - polycarbonate), the most common type of plastic used to make reusable water bottles, is also considered unsafe by scientists, even though the FDA still considers it safe. The FDA has just recently stated that it MIGHT be unsafe.
Good luck!
