Eco-cleaners vs. Chemical Cleaners

Posted May 23rd, 2008 by greenchi

I was wondering if you could explain why it is better for the environment to use 7th Generation cleaning products than conventional/chemical-based cleaners? I would like to advocate that my friends and family spend the extra dollars to use your products, but would like to be able to explain why in a compelling and succinct way that is easy for people without a science background to understand. I would also be grateful if you could point me to places where I can read more about it. Many thanks.

I have thrown out the Comet, Pinesol, et al. Now my kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned with Borax, vinegar and lemon juice. My home smells better for it, I feel better physically and environmentally by doing more to help the environment.

Regular Detergent is Made From Petroleum

I feel so dense, but I had no idea detergents were made from petroleum. We save barrels of oil by using these products, and the company is using sustainable operating procedures to produce their cleaners and supplies. The ingredients will break down again and become part of nature instead of polluting the water supply as they are rinsed down the drain.

Good luck getting more people interested!

I love the dishwasher powder, because it actually does a better job than the mainstream stuff without STINKING like bleach and nasty scents. I can never go back to that nasty stuff.

Great question! The benefits of "eco-cleaners" versus conventional cleaners is a rich and many-faceted subject. I think these two posts do a good job of introducing some of the benefits and reasoning behind using Seventh Generation and other eco-friendly products. I hope this will help to get you started on your eco-cleaning education!
